Link Popularity

Although the link popularity concept has been around awhile, it is really ringing true most recently with Google's search results. Essentially "link popularity" refers to who is linked to you. Not only that, but most importantly is the value of the site linked to you. For instance, let's say your site is about "flowers". A link from Yahoo's category Business and Economy > Shopping and Services > Flowers is much more weighted than a link from your friend's Auto Supplies site. The first point to consider is, how much traffic is the linking site getting, and second, how relevant is that site to yours.

In addition, Google has waged war on unrelated links and "link farms." They will definitely ban your site if you abuse the true value of link popularity.
